SUMMARY:2024 MIT AI Conference: Tech\, Business\, and Ethics
DESCRIPTION:Over the past year\, Artificial Intelligence has been a predominant topic (if not the predominant topic) in just about every field – technology\, business\, politics\, the arts\, etc. It is also rapidly evolving\, with news that is often dated after just a few weeks\, if not days. But what is the status of AI development and policy? And what are the ethical implications of what some call the next step in the evolution of intelligence? How do questions of ethics in AI keep pace with this breakneck speed of development? \nThese and other pressing questions will be the subject of the conference\, where leading MIT experts will weigh in on these issues and their impact on business\, politics\, education\, and the overall direction of humanity. Register here.

SUMMARY:OpenLineage Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Data engineers and pipeline managers know that producing data lineage – end-to-end pipeline metadata instrumented at runtime or parsed at design time – is a heavy lift without a shared standard for lineage metadata. It requires duplication of effort across pipeline tooling\, and deployment of new tools can break existing lineage workflows. Getting useful lineage can seem like a sisyphean task. \nEnter OpenLineage\, an increasingly adopted open standard for lineage metadata collection. It defines a generic model of run\, job\, and dataset entities identified using consistent naming strategies. The core lineage model is extensible by defining specific facets to enrich those entities. \nJoin us at the SF Astronomer offices on September 12th at 6:00 pm PT to learn more about the OpenLineage spec and integrations. You’ll meet other members of the ecosystem\, learn about the project’s goals and fundamental design\, and participate in a robust discussion about the future of the project. \nSpeakers and topics TBA.

SUMMARY:Build Interoperable Conversational Assistants with Open Voice Specifications and Software
DESCRIPTION:There are millions of chatbots and voice bots (conversational assistants) in the world\, hosted on mobile phones\, smart speakers and websites. They are hosted by many kinds of organizations – including governments\, businesses\, and non-profits. Today\, each conversational assistant is independent of the others\, even within an organization\, and each one has its own expertise. What if they could collaborate\, working together and sharing information? This would reduce implementation complexity\, duplication of effort\, and friction for users. \nThe Open Voice Network Interoperability Initiative of the LFAI and Data Foundation is working on enabling just these capabilities. Its goal is to make it possible for different voice and conversational AI systems\, based on LLM’s or other NLP technologies\, to work together through the use of a standard open-source set of easy-to-use messages. The messages enable any conversational assistant that follows the standards to freely interoperate with other standards-using assistants to connect\, communicate\, and transfer content and control across assistants\, platforms\, and language models. Please join us for a workshop that will show developers how to use our specifications to create ecosystems of collaborating assistants\, including both new assistants as well as legacy assistants. \nThis workshop will describe the messaging protocol and then introduce the Open Voice Interoperability Initiative implementations of the protocol. We start by reviewing the open source Interoperability Sandbox implementation. The Sandbox includes a web interface client as well as an assortment of interoperable assistants available for experimentation. We will also introduce BeaconForge\, an open source assistant server\, that can be modified to build interoperable assistants based on LLM models. Attendees will get a chance to build their own assistant during the workshop.
