SUMMARY:LF AI & Data Meetup – Research Triangle Park\, NC
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: September 17\, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Eastern Time \n\nLocation: Frontier RTP\, 800 Park Offices Drive\, Research Triangle Park\, NC 27709\nCost: Free to attend. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks provided courtesy of Frontier RTP. Optional snacks and food available.\n\nJoin us at a special meetup with the RTP area’s members of the LF AI & Data Foundation — a premier open-source foundation fostering collaboration and providing trusted AI & Data infrastructure\, uniting developers\, organizations\, and users. \nYou’ll have the opportunity to meet fellow LF AI & Data Foundation members\, discover the latest open-source projects and initiatives\, and explore ways to contribute to the future of responsible AI development. Most importantly\, you’ll have plenty of time to connect\, network and build relationships with fellow professionals in the AI and data science community.  This meetup is part of Frontier RTP’s Out of Office (OOO) weekly networking event (the broader event starts at 4:30pm) and is free to attend. \n\nNetworking\, Pizza\, and LF AI & Data updates 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM \n\nWelcome speech – Oita Coleman\, Member\, LF AI & Data\nIntro and updates on LF AI & Data activities – Brad Topol\, LF AI & Data Governance Board Representative\, IBM\n\nMain talk – Transfer Learning with PyTorch 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM \n\nTransfer learning reuses a model trained on a large dataset and fine-tunes it for a new task. It delivers dramatically better accuracy in far less training time. In this talk\, we will share a demo showcasing benefits of Transfer learning with PyTorch. You will learn how to create model from scratch\, how a pretrained model (e.g. ResNet) can be fine-tuned\, and comparison of their training and inference accuracy. We will also show how IBM Bob (AI-powered development partner) was used to build this demo. The speaker is Sahdev Zala\, PyTorch Ambassador. \n\nTalk 2: Intro to Distributed Inference with LLM-D 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM \n\nThe session will cover various vLLM deployment topologies for deploying large models\, as well as the routing optimizations in llm-d to improve their performance on Kubernetes. It will also provide an overview of Batch Inference\, which covers re-using the inference pools for low priority requests. Overall\, it will a good introduction into how llm-d enables priority shedding via flow control. The speaker is Will Eaton\, Red Hat.\n\nLightning talks  \n\nIf you are interested to present your LF AI & Data project for a 10-minute slot\, let us know by emailing to oita.coleman@gmail.com and spzala@us.ibm.com\n\n
