As we approach the end of 2024 and are in full planning mode for 2025, it is the perfect time to reflect on the incredible growth and vibrant community that make up LF AI & Data. Our organization has established itself as a hub for innovation in artificial intelligence and data, and the numbers truly speak for themselves.
Currently, we host 68 technical projects and are the home for 9 active committees including the Generative AI Commons. Our developer community across all projects consists of over 100,000 active developers coming from 3,000+ organizations. This level of engagement and participation demonstrates the dedication and enthusiasm of our community members who are continually working to advance open source AI and data technologies.
Projects in LF AI & Data have been contributed from organizations headquartered in nine countries. This diverse participation enriches our project offerings but fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing across borders.
In 2024, AI & Data welcomed nine new members, underscoring our sustained growth and the expanding reach of our community.
The chart below showcases the broad geographical distribution of our global membership, highlighting contributions from diverse regions and reinforcing our commitment to fostering a truly international AI and data ecosystem.
As we reflect on our accomplishments, it’s worth noting that 40 organizations have brought their projects into the LF AI & Data community to embrace open source and open governance principles. This commitment to openness is vital for fostering collaboration and innovation in the AI and data domains.
Leading the way are prominent companies such as Databricks, IBM, Intel,, and Microsoft., who are hosting multiple projects in LF AI & Data. These organizations not only contribute their expertise and resources but also enhance the credibility and visibility of our community. Their involvement exemplifies the collective effort to create robust, scalable solutions that can be freely shared and improved upon by anyone in the industry.
The collaboration between established industry leaders and emerging projects creates a rich ecosystem where knowledge and resources can flow freely. This environment not only accelerates technological advancement but also ensures that a diverse range of voices and perspectives contribute to the development of AI and data solutions. By working together in an open-source framework, we can tackle complex challenges and drive innovation more effectively.
As we move forward, we remain committed to nurturing this growing community and supporting the projects that push the boundaries of what is possible in AI and data. We look forward to the exciting developments that 2025 will bring and to continuing our mission of fostering innovation and collaboration in the AI & Data landscape.
