Presentation Overview

This presentation explored the comprehensive strategies employed by LF AI & Data to cultivate an inclusive and innovative ecosystem for AI development. It showcased LF AI & Data’s holistic approach to supporting ongoing projects and shaping the future of open source AI, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to fostering a thriving AI community. Here are some key efforts undertaken by LF AI & Data to advance its projects and lead the evolution of open source AI.

  • A Home for Open Source AI: Ibrahim discussed LF AI & Data’s role in hosting 68 projects, which are categorized into graduated, incubation, and sandbox levels. By offering a “safe haven” for both technical and non-technical contributions, LF AI & Data effectively reduces industry fragmentation and aligns diverse industries around flagship projects. There are also many complimentary support programs available to hosted projects including marketing services, legal services, neutral hosting, program management, and more.
  • Generative AI Commons: This rapidly expanding initiative now involves over 200 individuals from more than 80 organizations, signifying a substantial collaborative effort across various sectors. The focus remains on propelling the adoption and ethical use of generative AI technologies, paving the way for innovative applications and responsible governance.
  • Openness in AI: The Generative AI Commons designed and developed the Model Openness Framework (MoF), a comprehensive system for evaluating and classifying the completeness and openness of machine learning models. In addition, the Model Openness Tool (MoT) was created to provide a practical, user-friendly way to apply the MOF framework to your model and produce a clear, self-service score.
  • Community Data License Agreement (CDLA): CDLAs facilitate the sharing of data in a manner similar to how open source licenses support software. These licenses are designed to reduce data silos, offering clarity, ease of compliance, and durability to ensure they remain effective as technology evolves.
  • AI_dev: Connecting the Community: The AI_dev conference series was launched in 2023 to boost community engagement and collaboration. The next AI_dev events include AI_dev Japan, scheduled for October 28-29, and AI_dev Hong Kong, from August 21-23.
  • Training & Certification: LF AI & Data supports continuous learning and professional development in AI and ML, offering 15 specialized courses. Explore the full course catalog to discover various training opportunities that can enhance their skills and knowledge in the field.
