This is the summary of the activities of the Egeria community in January 2023.
Community meeting in Amsterdam
We had a very successful community meeting in Amsterdam, where there were members of the Egeria community from various organisations: ING Bank, IBM, PDR, Atruvia and Microsoft.
The meeting covered the following topics:
- Cloud native discussion – a great discussion contrasting the metadata needs of a self service governance team who will use the OMAG platform and OMAG Platform servers (the existing architecture) with the needs of an IT team driven deployment around cloud native. We formed a workgroup to progress this with priority.
- Data product/data-mesh discussion – related to cloud native, the idea of data as a product and having a market place for those products. The community members all want to move to use data product architectures – and we are looking at how Egeria can best help .
- Integration simplification – we have documented a new connector catalog – a single place to see how Egeria integrates. There is a new picture showing what Egeria integrates with:
- Certificates and passwords – discussion on the best ways to handle certificates and passwords
- Database support – a new JDBC connector allowing Egeria to connect to any JDBC sources; a small set have been tested by the team.
- User interfaces – the move towards a new UI with components, bringing the exiting UIs together. There was a demo on how to consume the UI framework in a custom UI
- Release policy – optimising the release schedule
Other activities
- Connectors – a new connector was created for Confluent Event Schema integration
- Conformance Test Suite (CTS) enhancements – a new way to automate the running of these tests has been developed
- Core Egeria release news including a new version 4 running Java 17
- Events
- New documentation pages
- Moving to Gradle – we are dropping Maven and moving to Gradle only
